New Year, New You: 2021 Wrap Up

If we thought that nothing could be worse than 2020, with 20/20 hindsight we now know that 2021 had something in store for us. A lot of violence, anger, and causes for fear have happened in the year.

Yet, here we stand. 

Hopeful for a new year to come! You see, no matter what gets thrown at us, we can and will find a way through it and we will this time too. It is easy to focus on the negative that happens and yes, there has been a lot of it in the past year but I think there’s a lot to be hopeful for, moving into the new year. And although the future is unknown, we know this: staying focused and committed to what we can control, makes even tough times manageable. We also know that setting goals will help us both have destinations to move towards, as well as hold us accountable. Accomplishing goals also show us our progress and gives us something to celebrate and that’s why I recommend you to set at least one or two goals this year.

Looking back at 2021, I love seeing our expansion and improvement in so many different areas.

Kids Martial Arts + Ninja Classes

First, I want to mention the huge undertaking of rolling out our kids program with so many additional benefits to the kids. For example, the roll-out of our Ninja Skillz program, which is a fusion of gymnastics and OCR (Obstacle Course Racing), as well as our life skills, which I know will help our kids become the best version of themselves and create the next generation of leaders. I’m also very excited about our first Exhibition & Ceremony on January 29th! 

Kids Ninja Skillz Classes started in June 2021. This fusion of obstacle course racing and gymnastics rounds off our entire kids program with kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by helping kids further develop their athleticism, agility, speed, and coordination.

Ninja Skillz classes are Tuesday/Thursday 3:45pm-6pm. Learn more.

The entire kids program at Systems Training Center has had a drastic makeover this year, really working on unifying the program although the three disciplines being taught vary.

In 2022, under the guidance of the Kids Program Director, Sheridan “Cherry” Lopez, we have even more exciting things in store.

Our kids have worked hard this year and it’s time to recognize their skills and growth in all three disciplines.

The rehearsal + ceremony are only $39 for both days. Rehearsals are one week before the exhibition and ceremony. Just drop off your children at Systems Training Center. Rehearsals are 2 hours long per age group.

Bang Muay Thai

We launched our Bang Muay Thai Affiliation, which I’m personally very happy to be part of. Bang Muay Thai is a great fusion of traditional Muay Thai, boxing, and Dutch-style kickboxing, created by the great UFC fighter and coach Duane Ludwig and inspired by former UFC heavyweight champion Bas Rutten, who I directly trained under myself. It’s a style that works very well both for straight Kickboxing and Muay Thai but also for both MMA and Krav Maga.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Seeing all the growth and success of all our BJJ students, as well as all the Checkmat competitors that we train with down at the Checkmat HQ! It was great to see our competitors get a chance to show off their new skills and the amount of success we had in competitions! The same goes for our fighters that competed in both MMA and Kickboxing!

Wimp2Warrior

We’ve partnered with Wimp2Warrior for a truly unique and transformational experience for individuals who’ve always wondered what it would be like to become a fighter. This 20-week immersive program puts people who’ve never fought into a real training camp with real fight professionals. In the end, they get the option to get into a cage or ring and fight (but that part is optional). Our next Wimp2Warrior team will start in mid-2022. Join the waitlist now.

Spartan Race

The first official Systems Training Center team competed in a Spartan Race! It was amazing to see all the participants help each other through all the obstacles and do so well! I’m excited to do more of them with you in 2022 and get that Trifecta!

I want to wrap up by saying how thankful I am to all our staff and instructors who work so hard to become better and grow, to provide the best possible experience for you all and I’m proud of YOU all for stepping out of your comfort zone and working hard to become better, every single day and for trusting us with being part of that process. The honor to serve you all and be a small part of your physical and more importantly mental transformations is humbling and a responsibility we carry with pride.
