When you’re not able to make it into the gym, working out at home is a great alternative. And rather than trying to come up with workouts on your own, you can participate in online fitness classes.

Doing an online workout is going to be different than what you’re used to doing at the gym. But you can still get a great workout! Here are a few tips on how to get the most out of an online fitness class:

1. SET TIME ASIDE SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR WORKOUT.

Set time aside in your day that is specific to your workout. For those thirty to sixty minutes, focus all of your attention on getting in a good quality workout. Now isn’t the time to multi-task by checking on something you have in the oven or taking a peek at your email. Start your workout and stay focused all the way to the end.

2. CREATE A COMFORTABLE SPACE.

Make a space where you feel comfortable working out. If you have limited space, make the most of it by clearing out anything that might be hazardous or distracting. You might feel a little awkward at first working out in your living room, but you’ll get used to it in no time.

3. CREATE YOUR OWN MUSIC PLAYLISTS.

Create a motivating workout environment with an awesome workout playlist. Music can help you work and push harder during your workout. It can also make time go by a little bit faster and even reduce your perceived effort level. Even if your instructor is playing music, it might be hard to hear. So make a playlist that increases your energy and excitement before and during your daily workout.

4. RECORD YOUR WORKOUTS.

Keep track of every workout that you complete. Make notes on what went well and what you could do differently the next time. Find and track the different ways that you can push harder in your next workout so that you continue improving and seeing results.

5. CHALLENGE YOURSELF.

When you’re used to working out with a group of people and a coach who motivates you to push harder, working out at home requires an adjustment. When you’re working out in a room on your own, you have to find new ways to challenge yourself. If you know you can push harder or do a few more reps, tell yourself that. Remind yourself why it’s important for you to keep working hard. Keep challenging yourself even if no one can see what you’re doing.
