You may assume that if you don’t have any kind of martial arts background that something like kickboxing might not be for you. It’s true that kickboxing can be intimidating. But you still might be intrigued enough to give it a try.

Kickboxing has both physical and mental benefits, and it can be a great way to mix up your current workouts with something new and fun.

Here are a few of the reasons why kickboxing should be your next workout:

1. YOU’LL GET A FULL-BODY WORKOUT.

Kickboxing is a full-body workout, and you’ll improve both your strength and endurance. Kickboxing will tone you upper and lower body, as well as your core. The structure of many kickboxing classes breaks your workout into rounds. You work at a high-intensity for a short interval followed by a recovery period. This pattern repeats throughout your workout and is essentially high-intensity interval training (HIIT). The result is an effective workout that burns a ton of calories.

2. YOU’LL MOVE WITH MORE FLEXIBILITY.

Not only does kickboxing get you into great shape, but it also helps you move better. As your flexibility begins to improve, you’ll be able to move with more efficiency and get even more out of your workouts. If you currently have limited flexibility, give yourself some time. It will improve.

3. YOU’LL IMPROVE YOUR COORDINATION AND BALANCE.

If your go-to workout routine has always been running, walking, or something similar, then kickboxing will be a welcome change for both your body and your brain. Kickboxing improves your coordination through pairing left and right side movements of your arms and legs. Challenging your body with these less familiar movements will also improve your balance.

4. YOU’LL GET SOME STRESS RELIEF.

Any type of physical activity provides the benefit of stress relief. Kickboxing, in particular, creates a safe and fun outlet for whatever life decides to throw at you. At the same time, getting regular exercise through a high-intensity workout like kickboxing promotes a better night’s sleep. And a good night’s sleep is key to helping your body manage stress.
