HOW TO HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR WORKOUTS AT HOME

When you’re not able to make it into the gym, at-home workouts are always an option. It doesn’t get more convenient than working out in your own home, right?

But you’ll still face a few challenges. Your routine is thrown off. Perhaps equipment is limited. You might be more tempted to keep pushing your workout off. The couch is right there, along with all kinds of distractions.

Despite these and other challenges, you can create a successful at-home workout routine. Here are a few ideas on how to hold yourself accountable for your workouts at home:

1. ADJUST YOUR FITNESS GOALS.

When you’re working out at home, you might need to adjust your fitness and martial arts goals. Rather than focusing on what you don’t have available, focus on the things that you can do. And modify your goals to fit your situation. Maybe your goal is to work out three times a week. Or you want to get in at least thirty minutes of training each day. By setting goals, you’ll give yourself a sense of purpose around your workouts and have something to hold yourself accountable for.

2. PLAN YOUR WORKOUT INTO YOUR SCHEDULE.

Rather than telling yourself that you’ll work out at some point, schedule your workout into your day. If your gym is holding online classes, put the class on your calendar. Create a routine for your day, and then hold yourself to your plan.

3. KEEP A WORKOUT JOURNAL AND TRACK YOUR PROGRESS.

Keeping a workout journal is a great way to build a consistent workout habit. By writing down your daily workouts, you’re able to track your progress over time. Rather than just working out when you feel like or sporadically throughout the week, a workout journal helps build in some structure and organization around your workouts.

4. LEVERAGE YOUR COMMUNITY AND SUPPORT SYSTEM.

If you’re used to training with a group in person, you can bring all of the benefits of group training online through things like virtual workouts, group chats, and video check-ins. In addition to your online community, use the support system in your own home. Share your goals and workout plan with your family and invite them to join you.
