As kids are starting to head back to school, you might be looking for after school activities for your child. And martial arts is a great choice!

Here are a few reasons to go back to school with martial arts this year:

1. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Most kids spend most of their school day sitting at a desk, so an after school activity where kids can have fun and be active is a great idea. Martial arts is an activity where kids can build endurance and strength, as well as coordination, agility, and flexibility. Plus, classes are structured in a way to keep things fun. Kids won’t even realize that they’re exercising! As an added bonus, a child who learns the value of physical activity earlier in life is more likely to take this habit with them into adulthood.

2. SELF-DISCIPLINE

Developing self-discipline can be a challenging task for anyone, both kids and adults. However, self-discipline is a valuable life skill to learn. Kids have the opportunity to practice this skill through martial arts. They learn to stay in control, be respectful to others, and work hard – even when no one is looking. The process to learn martial arts, as well as to develop self-discipline, takes time and patience. But in the end, that effort will pay off. Kids can take what they’ve learned on the mats to other areas of their lives, like the classroom. Learning martial arts takes time and patience; a student must be disciplined to stick with the process and put in the work to learn and improve. But in the end, that effort will pay off.

3. FOCUS

Martial arts trains both the body and the mind. One of the “mind training” skills that kids develop through martial arts is focus. Kids who participate in martial arts are expected to focus and pay attention to their instructor’s instructions. A child who can focus during martial arts is more likely to pay attention, listen carefully, and respond appropriately in other situations. Improved focus in the classroom helps kids become better students and develop productive study habits.
