5 REASONS WHY WOMEN SHOULD GIVE JIU-JITSU A TRY

While martial arts like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu might seem like a male-dominated sport and activity, the number of female participants continues to grow. Martial arts is for everyone, and all ages will benefit from what martial arts has to offer.

Both men and women get a lot out of participating in martial arts, and we want to encourage everyone to give BJJ a try. But we also want to bring some more attention to a few of the reasons why women should give Jiu-Jitsu a try.

Some martial arts appear to be more about looking cool and aren’t necessarily all that helpful in a real life situation. There are other martial arts styles, like Jiu-Jitsu, that focus on practical application. Rather than relying on brute strength, Jiu-Jitsu is known as the gentle art and involves a lot of strategy. Even the smallest white belt with a firm grasp of the foundational skills of Jiu-Jitsu could overtake an attacker.

If you feel like you struggle with feeling confident in yourself and what you can do, BJJ can help you gain self-confidence. When you first try Jiu-Jitsu, you’ll face all kinds of new challenges as you learn to apply techniques in different situations. Jiu-Jitsu is a well-rounded physical activity that improves your physical health and fitness, including both strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, and agility. You’ll get a full-body workout without ever stepping foot on a treadmill or picking up a dumbbell.

Starting a new activity gives you the opportunity to meet a new group of people who share a common interest. It can be hard to meet new people or form new friendships as an adult, but the group environment of BJJ makes it a possibility.
