WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL

If you’re searching for a martial arts school, you might be wondering what to look for. Here are a few tips for what to look for in a martial arts school for you and your family:

1. MARTIAL ARTS STYLES

If you’re new to martial arts, you might be interested in a school that offers a variety of styles so that you can figure out which one you’d like to learn more about. Depending on the school, you might be able to try a few trial classes to find the style that seems to suit you best.

2. VALUE

When choosing a martial arts school, a program’s cost will be a factor in your decision. But be wary of choosing a school only based on price. Instead, consider the value of a school’s programs and class offerings. A school with quality instructors with a clean and updated facility provides value to its members that other schools (that are less expensive) might be lacking.

3. PERSONAL GOALS

While making a decision, another factor to consider is your personal martial arts goals. If you’re new to martial arts and your focus is on learning the basics, you’ll want to look for a beginner-friendly school. Suppose your goal is to find an activity that your whole family can enjoy together. In that case, you’ll want to search for a school that offers various programs to both adults and children. Make sure that the school you select aligns with your martial arts goals.

4. INSTRUCTOR EXPERIENCE

Something else to consider when choosing a martial arts school is the knowledge and experience of the instructors. Some instructors will have an extensive competitive resume, which can be a great fit if you’re also looking to compete. Again, look for the knowledge and experience that aligns with your personal goals.

5. COMMUNITY AND CULTURE

The best way to get a feel for a school’s community and culture is to try out a few classes. However, if you try a class and you’re not sure it’s the best fit, don’t let that discourage you. Look for a similar class that interests you that may be held at a different time of day or with another instructor. Try to find a class and instructor that makes you feel comfortable, challenged, and motivated to learn.
